John the Baptist, Paul Tassin, and Donald Trump!

Today, June 24, 2022, the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutionality of Roe vs. Wade. The majority said there had never been a Constitutional right to an abortion. Even liberal Justice Ginsburg, who had died in 2020, had thought that Roe vs. Wade (that a woman had a right to abortion based on her right to abortion) was not a strong enough argument to secure the right to abortion.

I praise God for today’s decision. This year, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on the day that usually celebrates the solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist, the unborn baby who leapt for joy at the sound of the voice of Mary, pregnant with the Savior of the world. This year it was moved to June 23 for the sake of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will always fall on the Friday following the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which is the next Sunday after Pentecost. So, the date will change each year, but not the day. It will always be a Friday, whereas, the feast of John the Baptist, June 24, could fall on any day of the week.

So, from now on, the  anniversary of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade will fall on June 24, which most likely will be the solemnity of John the Baptist.  John the Baptist announced the coming of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life! A fitting announcement to rectify a wrong made 49 years ago.

Well after that tedious explanation of dates, let’s get back to the celebration!

I am reminded of so many great pro-life workers from Victoria, particularly Dorothy Stathis, Paul Tassin, and Msgr. James Brunner. I’m sure they were dancing in heaven today. Their work helped to bring about this turn around.

There’s also another I’m reminded of. He surprised many when he said he was running as a pro-life candidate for the presidency—Donald Trump. During the primary, I wanted anyone to win but Trump. He was too egotistical, rude, and lacked even a trace of humility.

When he became the candidate, I wasn’t pleased, but I put a large sign for Trump in the front yard and voted for him. I did the same for him four years later. He seemed to be the only Republican candidate who really kept his promises to fight for the unborn. Remember that he was the only president to attend the March for Life and he selected three young conservative Justices of the Peace.

That’s why I voted for him and voted for him a second time. I certainly did not vote for his personality but for the possibility that Roe vs. Wade might be overturned. And praise God it happened. It probably would not have happened if it hadn’t had been for Donald Trump.

And maybe there’s hope that he’s becoming humbler. Today, when he was asked if he played a role in today’s decision (naming the three new justices), he replied, “God made the decision.” Wow, I was shocked, surprised, and grateful.

Later he did say, “Today’s decision, which is the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation…(was) only made possible because I delivered everything as promised, including nominating and getting three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court,” he said in a statement. “It was my great honor to do so!” (from The Guardian. Conscience Nurtured by Truth)

Ok, not so humble, but it is true! And it is definitely the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation! Thanks be to God and former President Trump!

Now, we need to continue to pray and work for the protection of the unborn in the states who are promoting abortion even more strongly now. May God also protect us from the liberal minded folks’ anger and aggression.
